Over-all Description/Profile of the School and Community
1. THE LEGEND OF GRACE PARK
“Grace Park” is taken from the name Grace, the daughter of the late President Franklin Roosevelt, an American Commissioner to the Philippines during the Commonwealth Period (1935-1941). Grace Park then was a barrio of Caloocan in the Province of Rizal before it became a city in 1962. It is located in the west, from the Bonifacio Monument going to Manila.
2. THE BRIEF HISTORY OF GRACE PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
In 1952, the first school house of Grace Park Elementary School was located at Teodoro Street 4th Avenue near Ang Tibay Shoes Factory and Aling Abe’s Kiosk, which is until now existing. The first head teacher was Prudencio Cordeta. It was a rented building that housed pupils in Grades I-IV with four teachers. Among the first teachers were Dr. Esperanza Orlina, a Physical Education teacher and now a Regional Director, Mrs. Dolores Reyes a retired Aromahan District Supervisor, Mrs. Anniana Leonardo Principal at North District and Mr. Herminio E. Aguilar a shop teacher.
In 1954, parents and teachers requested transfer of the school through the municipal council Baltazar Street 7th Avenue under the supervision of Mr. Prudencio P.Quilanita. That place was behind where the Sacred Parish Church is located. Enrolment increased so that the school transferred again to a bigger place along 7th Avenue, which is now Grace Park Unit I.
On September 4, 1957, the school site was acquired through the effort of Mayor Macario B. Asistio Sr. and Governor Isidro Rodriguez. It has an area of 10,010 square meters situated between 5th and 6th Avenue on February 16, 1962, Caloocan became a city under Republic Act 3278 Proclamation No. 9 issued by the late President Diosdado Macapagal. When it became a city, people came from the province to try their luck in Caloocan. There was a continued increase in enrolment.
